The whale shark
Also known as "checkerboard" or "domino" fish, it is a solitary migratory species, considered the largest fish in the world, distributed in warm and temperate seas: San Blas, Nayarit; Isla Contoy, Isla Mujeres, Holbox and Cabo Catoche, Quintana Roo.
It is a large gray fish with pale white spots of vertical and horizontal stripes on the back, white belly and dorsal fins oriented towards the back of the body. They can measure up to more than 20 meters in length and weigh 25 tons.
They feed of organisms such as zooplankton, plants and small fish such as sardines, anchovies and even small squid.

It was established in 2009 and located in the northern coasts of Quintana Roo, with the purpose of promoting the knowledge and conservation of the marine species, since, it is in danger of extinction.
